This is a story of meeting of my husband when I had not long moved to the Northern Rivers from Tamworth. It is also a universal story of people from totally different backgrounds, cultures and experiences, coming together, finding the common ground they need to make their relationships work. As we all know, relationships are not easy!

Lyrics

The Captain and the Gypsy – Clelia Adams

what a pair they made from the very start
they come together from worlds apart
all his years at sea had weathered him down
she came from the red dirt soils of country towns

she’d been way out west, just keeping afloat
the world was his oyster, captain of his boat
he knew in his heart she was one of a kind
she knew a gentleman was hard to find

the captain and the gypsy ignite the flame
their love for open spaces was just the same
he was her anchor, steady as a rock
she the wind in his sail, the tick of his tock
the captain and the gypsy fi re up the flame
when all was said and done, they were just the same

“it’ll never work” they both said
he needs deep still waters to soothe his head
she needs the grounding earth to ramble upon
somewhere to go and to come home from

he sailed her into peaceful waters,
she tore down walls and shifted borders

the captain and the gypsy fi re up the flame
their love of open spaces was the same
he was her anchor, steady as a rock
she the wind in his sails, the tick to his tock
the captain and the gypsy fi re up the flame
when all was said and done they are just the same
